Lariam® (Mefloquine 250mg) Tablets

Lariam® (Mefloquine 250mg)

Lariam interferes with the growth of the malaria parasites in the red blood cells. For this medication to be effective at the destination, you must start taking it at least 10 days before you depart. Usually the 2nd dose is taken 7 days after the first and 3 days before departure. As with other antimalarials, protection isn't guaranteed and  other bite prevention measures must be taken alongside it. It is suitable for both adults and young children.

Lariam is best taken with food or milk in order to prevent any stomach upset. It should be flushed down with adequate water and taken on the same day of each week.

Adults: Take one tablet of Lariam once a week on the same day. Take the first tablet 10 days before you travel, then another after 7 days, weekly whilst in a malaria-prone area and for weekly for 4 weeks after your return.
