Melatonin, 3mg Tablets

Melatonin is a hormone derived from the amino acid- tryptophan that is well known for improving sleep quality by encouraging the onset, duration and sleep/ wake patterns. It helps maintain the tune of the circadian rhythm, but can be affected by jet lag and shift work. It also declines naturally with age.

Evidence also suggests it can be beneficial in fertility as the circadian rhythm is linked to the menstrual cycle and release of female reproductive hormones. It seems to also function as an antioxidant and reduce the oxidative stress of the actual fertility treatment on the gametes and embryos leading to better treatment outcomes. It is also known to support immune health and increase egg quality.

Though produced naturally in the absence of natural light at night, there is some indication that light in the blue wavelengths (common in smartphone/ PC screens and LED lights) can reduce the rise in melatonin. This adds further support of its use as a supplement.

Melatonin is currently unlicensed and available only on prescription in the UK, although it is considered a supplement in many other countries including the US where it tends to be used on professional recommendation.
