Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum)

Milk Thistle is native to the Mediterranean regions of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, but can now be found worldwide.
Although popular traditional use pertains to use in various Liver disorders such as alcoholic liver disease and cirrhosis, there is very little clinical evidence to support this. Most of the available evidence for its effectiveness pertains to use in diabetes, where it can help reduce the need for insulin and diabetic medications as it can improve clinical markers such as HbA1c.
