As with its herb- tumeric, the essential oil provides a useful alternative for external use. Originally from India, it is well known for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-ageing properties (fine lines and wrinkles). It has historically been used in Chinese and Indian Ayurvedic medicine to treat arthritis due to its active components which are known to block inflammatory cytokines and enzymes. Usage:
- Arthritis: Mix a couple of drops with a carrier oil such as olive oil and massage onto joints or muscles
- Skin Conditions: Mix a couple of drops with a carrier oil such as coconut oil and apply to the affected area
- Similar to the spice it is yellow and can stain so use with caution
- May increase skin sensitivity to sunlight so exercise caution
- Do not take internally or apply undiluted to the skin
- Keep out of reach of children
